The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation offers a Physical Education and Recreation minor for individuals who are pursuing an educator’s license in another discipline. Each participant must complete the required courses and pass the required state mandated exam for licensure according to Arkansas Department of Education in the PRAXIS series of exams. Current exams are:
Physical Education and Coaching: Health and Physical Education: Content Knowledge (5857)
Coaching Endorsement: Physical Education: Content and Design (5095)
The minor in Physical Education and Coaching Endorsement will be associated with individuals who want to have the teacher licensure endorsement in physical education and coaching.
Students must hold a Secondary Certification in Physical Education or hold, or be eligible to hold the standard six-year certificate or meet the coaching certification requirements established by the Arkansas Department of Education. HLPE 2393 Structural Kinesiology is a prerequisite for HLPE 3226 Motor Learning, HLPE 4319 Kinesiology, and HLPE 4320 Exercise Physiology.
Note: Students enrolled in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Degree program cannot select it as a minor; however, students are not prohibited from taking any of the courses as general electives or from taking courses beyond the 120 hours required in their discipline of choice, if approved by their academic advisor.
