Undergraduate Catalog 2024-2026

Agricultural Sciences, Poultry Science Option (3+1 UA Fayetteville), B.S.

Together, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and the University of Arkansas Fayetteville have established a curriculum guide allowing UAPB Agriculture-Animal Science students who successfully complete all UAPB/UAF 3+1 curriculum requirements, as outlined herein, to earn undergraduate degrees from both UAPB and UAF.

The UAPB/UAF 3+1 Poultry Science Transfer Degree Program shall use the model of 3+1, which is carried out by curriculum articulation and credit transfers between UAPB and UAF.  The degree specialty is Bachelor of Science in Agriculture-Animal Science (B.S.) from UAPB and a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences-Poultry Science (B.S.A.) from UAF.

Goals:

  1. To provide students with the basic knowledge of animal and poultry production
  2. To provide students with knowledge and skills needed to secure employment with the poultry industries as well as agriculture-related government agencies
  3. To prepare students for graduate study in animal science

Procedures:

The student’s application to complete the senior year at UA and and supporting documents will be evaluated by the UAPB Department of Agriculture Selection Committee, UA Admissions Office, and the Department of Poultry Science at UA.  If the applicant meets the program requirements, then the student, in turn, will be offered admission into the UA Department of Poultry Science commencing with the summer session before the senior year.

1. Any UAPB student seeking to participate in the 3+1 program must submit a letter of intent to complete that student’s senior year at UA with the supporting documents to the Chair of the UAPB Department of Agriculture by December 1st of the junior year.  The letter and supporting documents should include:

a. A personal statement of interest in poultry science as a career choice.

b. A summary of related work experiences; however, work experience is not a prerequisite for eligibility in the 3+1 program.

c. A copy of the student’s current official UAPB transcript.

d. A tentative schedule of courses for the spring semester at UAPB.

e. A letter of recommendation from a faculty member of UAPB.

2. The UAPB student should complete an admission application to UA by January of the junior year.  Students may apply online at www.uark.edu.

3. Submission of the UA application will be followed by an interview with the Selection Committees at UAPB and UA in February.

4. Students will be notified of admission to the 3+1 program by the UAPB Selection Committee by March 1st.

5. By the end of the student’s junior year and before beginning course work at UA, the student must meet the following requirements:
