This degree, which encompasses core science courses in Physics, Chemistry, and Math with different focuses in nanoscience and technology such as nanomaterials, nanoelectronics, nanophotonics, and nanochemistry curriculum, will prepare students who wish to pursue their careers in the world-leading nanotechnology industries. This program is unique in Arkansas for undergraduate students. Students graduating with this degree can pursue master’s degrees in Nanoscience, Physics, or Chemistry.

Objectives:

  1. To create an environment that will nurture UAPB students in a way so that they acquire the necessary state-of-the-art training to be in the work force in an ever-demanding world.
  2. To design and offer the necessary courses to enable UAPB students to be well trained in the field of nanoscience and technology, nanoelectronics, semiconductor devices, automobile technology, and become more marketable.
  3. To increase students’ understanding of materials and their properties at the nanoscale level, including an understanding of the close relationship between the scale and the properties of materials.
  4. To prepare graduates who are skilled in nanoscale science and engineering and will be qualified for jobs in traditional science-based industries and government laboratories and, as nanotechnologies mature, well positioned for jobs in this applied area.
  5. To provide students with cross-disciplinary scientific knowledge and professional skills.
  6. To educate a new generation of scientists who can participate and contribute to the new high-technology companies that will be the key to maintaining jobs, wealth, and educational infrastructures as nanotechnology results in a new industrial revolution.
  7. To train students to develop computational skills that will enhance employment opportunities in a wide range of industrial and governmental institutions.
  8. To prepare students for the workplace through developing their ability to have effective communication skills, modern science and engineering skills, and contribute constructively to multidisciplinary teams.
  9. To form strong multidisciplinary educational links through joint team projects that cross the traditional areas of science and engineering.
