Mass Communications, Public Relations Option, B.A.

The Public Relations Option is designed for students seeking a career as a communication or media specialists in profit- and/or non-profit organizations. The program combines classroom study with practical, hands-on experience in communication areas from press release writing, television production and publication preparation. The program also includes an internship* in the PR arena to assure that UAPB students learn first hand the challenges of the public relations professional and begin the networking, essential to career success. This degree requires completion of 120 hours including 1) general education component 2) specific degree requirements.

Expected student learning outcomes:

Students will be able to effectively write news releases and news articles that promote media events.

Students will learn how to create public relations campaigns for print and broadcast media.

Students will gain practical experience in public relations via internships and classroom study.

Students will learn to prepare brochures, pamphlets, newsletters and other materials for public relations campaigns.

Students will learn how to create public relations materials for crisis situations.
