Goals

1. To monitor and implement the recommendations of the National  Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the Committee on Undergraduate Programs in Mathematics (CPUM) and the Mathematical Association of America (MAA)
2. To enable students to meet the teacher certification requirements  of Arkansas
3. To provide prospective secondary school teaching professionals with a well-rounded and balanced program of study (pure, applied computational mathematics)
4. To cooperate with the School of Education in developing sound pedagogical principles
5. To encourage research and to stimulate interest in current trends in mathematical education
6. To encourage participation in professional organizations (national and local) and to support local organizations that provide tutorial sessions conducted by mathematics majors in other fields
