The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers the Bachelor of Science degree in two major areas: Computer Science and Mathematics. The Mathematics program provides both teaching and non-teaching options, as well as a concentration in Applied Mathematics. Students may pursue minors in Bioinformatics and Statistics through the Applied Mathematics Concentration. The Computer Science program offers degree options in Mathematics and Information Systems. The department also offers a series of courses transferable to the B. S. degree program in engineering.

  1. To support other departments requiring students to develop a certain level of mathematical, scientific, and technological maturity
  2. To provide all students with the opportunity to acquire sufficient basic skills for daily living
  3. To develop mathematical, scientific, and technological concepts required for certification and successful teaching
  4. To provide those experiences that will facilitate successful graduate study and enhance job opportunities in the marketplace

Candidates seeking degrees in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours and 124 credit hours for the Mathematics teaching option, beginning with Calculus I. Majors with deficiencies in general mathematics, algebra and trigonometry must complete one or more of the courses numbered 1310, 1320 and 1330 or 1550. Majors must also complete all core/major courses with a letter grade of “C” or better.
